When Hair Changes Its Shape

Many are born with pin straight hair, while others have wavy or curly hair. Unfortunately, their hair doesn’t stay that way for very long.

The strange tendency of hair to change its shape, in spite of genetics, has some scientists baffled. Even if a girl has straight-haired parents, her hairstyle may take on a different look in around seven to ten years. There might not be an answer to this mystery anytime soon, but scientists believe hormones play a critical role here.

Think of hair growth as a circle of life. The entire growth cycle—anagen, catagen, and telogen—takes years. Follicles are also subjected to internal and external influences, affecting their growth pattern and shape. Some hair strands may keep on growing, while others fall off to start all over again. On the other hand, hormonal changes happen on a daily basis, so no surprises there.

Restyling hair can be a hassle, but there's a silver lining. Just because hair extensions are straight, curly, or wavy doesn't mean they only work well with certain natural hair tendencies. In the hands of a skilled stylist, high-quality hair extensions blend well with one’s natural hair, resulting in a fabulous new ‘do.
